DESHAUGHN FORBES
OUTFIELD/LEFT HAND PITCHER CLASS OF 2022
DeShaughn Forbes is a 5'7", 162 pound left handed throwing, right handed hitting two way player from Nassau, Bahamas. He has a thick, muscular frame with the possibility of adding 10-15 pounds of muscle before he graduates. He plays for Trinity Christian Academy in Lake Worth, Florida. DeShaughn is primarily a center fielder, but he can play at either corner outfield spot as well. He has excellent instincts in the outfield, taking precise routes to the ball and consistently being in position to make plays. During his junior year, he only had one error (as a pitcher). He has a strong, accurate outfield arm and had two assists this season.
DeShaughn is an outstanding contact hitter, getting on base at a .459 clip and posting a .333 batting average. He flashes home run power, hitting a 400 ft+ home run this season and collecting eight more extra base hits. He is a tremendous hitter with runners in scoring position, hitting a robust .471 in those situations during the 2021 season. He can hit to all fields. DeShaughn has elite speed, running his 60 yard dash in an impressive 6.4 seconds. Every ball in play on the ground is a possible hit given his speed. Once he develops a better knowledge of base running he will be a constant base stealing threat.
As a pitcher, DeShaughn is a southpaw with a lot of upside. Primarily a fastball pitcher, his velocity hit 85 mph this season. He does throw a curveball and a change up that are developing and could eventually be out pitches. He struck out 17 hitters in 11 innings. With continued mechanical improvement, DeShaughn could be a valuable short reliever.
DeShaughn has a great attitude and displays excellent character. He works hard and is a wonderful teammate. He has incredible potential that should provide him opportunities at the next level.
